David Laws Speaks to Maidstone Schools

October 8, 2013 11:20 AM

Schools minister David Laws came to Headcorn last week to address teachers, pupils and Lib Dem members at a fundraising dinner.

He gave an intriguing insight into coalition government, revealing that although there can be tense negotiations, it has never degenerated into the kind of warfare that dogged the last Labour government.

David spoke of his pride at being able to introduce free school meals, and what an increase to £1,300 a year towards the education of each disadvantaged child will mean in Maidstone and the Weald.

After his speech he answered numerous questions from heads, teachers and sixth formers from many local secondary schools.

The evening, organised with considerable flair by chair of fundraising Cllr Sue Grigg, concluded with a successful auction of promises, raising funds for the election campaign, thanks to a virtuoso performance as auctioneer by Cllr Martin Cox.
