Under Threat Bridge Nursery, Allington: “I have discovered the wonder of Slow Worms” – Dan Daley

April 28, 2014 12:36 PM

Slow wormThey do not sound very pretty or wonderful, but Dan Daley reports that he has been fascinated by his observation of the family life of this strange legless lizard on view at Bridge Nursery in Allington.

Looking at the ecological survey reports on this land so valued by local residents, Dan has been drawn to some of the ecological sites and made some interesting observations. "A cover I lifted at one site let me see a number of these incredible creatures together. They were of all sizes indicating a breeding colony. That shows that the protection we are seeking on this land is desperately needed to shelter this not yet rare but declining species in our midst".

Dan continues, "Legless they may be - but they can surely move fast!". This is only one of many different types of animal life on this precious natural land - probably the only one left of its diverse type in the whole of West Maidstone. Dan is preparing now a complete reasoned argument for the total removal of this land from the Housing Allocation in the Public Consultation on the Local Plan. Objections to the Draft Local Plan must be sent to the Borough Council to arrive by 7th May.
