Maidstone Council Lib Dem Group Slams Local Plan "Lost Opportunity"

May 8, 2014 1:53 PM

The Leader of Maidstone Council Lib Dem Group Cllr. Fran Wilson has slammed the Conservative-led local authority's draft Local Plan as a "lost opportunity".

Fran levelled this charge as she submitted a detailed Liberal Democrat response to the draft Local Plan consultation. The Liberal Democrat submission challenged the Council's bloated 19,600 housing target, deplored the fact that only lip-service has been payed to regeneration and called for the deletion of development allocations including: Bridge Nursery at Allington; Invicta Barracks in North Ward; New Line Learning in Boughton Lane; and The Fuzzies at Penenden Heath. The level of development proposed by the Tory-led Council at villages like Coxheath, Staplehurst and Marden is also robustly challenged.
