"Independent" Councillors for Barming and Boughton Monchelsea Vote in 100% Conservative Cabinet

June 9, 2014 2:41 PM

The votes of the so called Independent Councillors for Barming and Boughton Monchelsea have imposed a 100% Tory Cabinet on the Borough, despite the fact that Maidstone is a hung council with no single party enjoying an overall majority.

The votes of the Barming and Boughton Monchelsea so called Independents will allow the Conservatives to implement the disastrous growth agenda which so threatens our countryside.

Local Liberal Democrats have vowed to redouble their campaign to protect our countryside and inject some common sense into the Conservative blueprint to plaster our Borough with 19,600 new houses, despite the poor infra-structure to support such unprecedented levels of development.

Lib Dem Group Leader Fran Wilson commented: "It is very sad that Councillors elected supposedly as Independents have betrayed those who elected them by putting a 100% Conservative administration into power." She added: "Their support for a minority Conservative Cabinet, rather than a more democratic cross party administration', is especially puzzling in light of the Conservative plans for massive green field development, which were of course so overwhelmingly rejected by local people at the recent local elections."
