Off Road parking standards adopted

April 7, 2015 8:03 PM

For years Liberal Democrat Councillors have argued that the Borough Council should not allow development without adaquete car parking spaces, because of the serious problems this causes to local residents and businesses.

Finally we have begun to win the argument and the Council has decided to adopt Kent County Council's parking standards to assist in determining planning applications. On March 17th The Planning, Transport and Development Overview and Scrutiny Committee, led by Liberal Democrat Councillor Ian Chittenden, voted to recommend to the Cabinet Member for Planning and Transport that he proceed to adopt the Standards immediately.

The Cabinet Member has now agreed to do so.

Liberal Democrat Group Leader Fran Wilson welcomed the vote and the subsequent decision of the Cabinet Member to accept the Committee's recommendations. Fran added: " This decision will assist in reducing the constant pressure on the car parking in our residential streets"
