Nicola Fissenden - Fighting for East MaidstoneNicola has lived in Maidstone with her husband for 27 years including the last 14 years in East Ward. She has two children her son attends Eastborough Primary School where she is a member of the Parents Teachers Association, and also helps with reading in her spare time. Her daughter is now at Valley Park School and is becoming a vibrant football player.

Nicola is self employed running a bakery business producing specialist products.

On the couincil Nicola has become the Chairman of the Democracy Committee. This committee is responsible for Councillor training and development; to determine matters relating to elections, electoral registration, and other democratic services responsibilities and functions, including reviewing this constitution on a regular basis. She also sits on the Heritage, Culture and Leisure Committee.

    Waitrose pulls out of new development in Maidstone

    Waitrose have withdrawn their proposal to build a new store on the Eclipse Park site in Maidstone at J7 of the M20 which had already been given planning permission.

    The company have advised that in the present financial climate they will be concentrating on improving existing stores, which could be good news for their current store at Allington.

    The Conservatives have lost control of Maidstone Borough Council after local people gave a massive thumbs-down to Conservative plans to allow 19,600 houses across our borough.

    The Lib Dems had a brilliant night, gaining Heath ward with a thumping majority and coming within a whisker of beating the Conservatives in their former strongholds of Marden & Yalding and Staplehurst.

    Development threat to Penenden Heath - Your chance to have your say.

    I am writing to inform you of the development threat to one of the last open areas of countryside in East Ward. The field between Heath Wood and Old Sittingbourne Road (behind the Chiltern Hundreds / Shaw Close) is singled-out in Conservative-led Maidstone Council's draft Local Plan for a new 35 unit housing development. This will generate on average 210 extra car journeys every single day!
