About Ian ian chittinden



Ian has lived in Maidstone for over 38 years and has a long history of succesful community action. From the chariman of Vinters Park Residents Association to Chairman of the Parents Association at Eastborough Junior and Maidstone Grammar School's, Ian has always exhibited a strong passion for representing and caring for his local community. Ian first became involved with the Liberal Democrats in 1984, when they were the only political party that supported his concerns regarding a major retail development on Newnham Court Farm. Ian's campaign was succesful and he joined us shortly after.

Due to his credentials and numerous successful campaigns, Ian is the Opposition Spokesman on Enviroment, Highways and Waste Cabinet Committee, together with the Planning Committee and Regulation Committee. In addition to this Ian, also sat on the Kent Police Authority for 3 years and chaired the strategic group of Kent's casulty reduction partnership.

Ian's proudest moments so far have been in helping with his consituents casework, the key purpose and task of a Councillor. In addition to this Ian is proud to have worked with Kent County Council and the Police Authority as part of a task force dedicated to reducing the numbers of injuries and deaths on our roads. It is with this latter point that Ian believes even more can be done, so that our streets are even safer and casulites from road traffic accidents are further reduced. In addition Ian wants to continue his open and active support for the people of his constituency in order to provide them with much needed Community facilities.
